About the team
The department handles recovery across a portfolio of agreements: it decides which of them will come out of arrears on their own and which are ready to be moved into debt recovery and litigation. An error in either direction costs money — move too early and you incur costs on a customer who would have paid anyway; move too late and you run up against the deadlines.
From there an agreement follows one of two routes: a notarial writ of execution or the courts. Once a decision is in place the case passes to private bailiffs, and this is where the second half of the work begins — tracking deadlines, dealing with the bailiffs and analysing which of them actually carry cases through to recovery and which leave them sitting idle.
The role sits between lawyer and analyst. Half the time goes on documents and hearings, half on Excel and the numbers behind the performance of the routes and the bailiffs.
What you will be doing
- Analysing the portfolio of agreements and building the selection of cases to be moved into debt recovery and litigation
- Preparing and submitting documents to notaries for a notarial writ of execution
- Preparing and filing claim materials with the courts
- Referring cases to the regional chambers of private bailiffs
- Liaising with notaries, courts and private bailiffs
- Monitoring the deadlines for referring cases and the performance of counterparties' obligations
- Measuring the effectiveness of private bailiffs and recommending how cases should be allocated
- Representing the company at court hearings
We will be happy to have you on our team if you:
- A degree in law
- Three years or more in the debt recovery and litigation department of a bank or microfinance organisation
- Excel at analyst level: pivot tables, formulas, working with exports running to thousands of rows
What we offer
- Influence over decisions: your analysis determines which route cases take and which bailiffs the company works with
- A volume of practice that takes years to build up in private practice: hearings and recovery come in a steady stream
- An office in central Almaty: gym, lounge area, coffee and snacks
